Join me and my event partners to learn from food safety experts about the latest food import regulations in the US and Canada.

During this free event, we will discuss FSVP requirements under FSMA and Canadian importer PCP requirements under the new Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR). This event will be run at the end of a 1.5 day FSVP training course, so that all training delegates may attend. We are also opening this event up to non training course delegates with an interest in FSVP and SFCR.

Why This Event is Important

The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) came into force on January 15, 2019. Canadian food importers and processors are responsible for the safety of the food you import into the country. Importers have to meet specific requirements in order to obtain a licence to import food into Canada. They need to have preventive controls, and in most cases, a written preventive control plan. They must also keep traceability records and maintain procedures for handling and investigating complaints and recalls for the food they import. 

What is an FSVP? The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began implementing the FDA’s Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) on May 27, 2017. Under FSVP, US importers subject to the rule must verify and document that their foreign suppliers are producing food in a manner that provides the same level of public health protection as the preventive controls or produce safety regulations, as appropriate, and to ensure that the supplier’s food is not adulterated and is not misbranded with respect to allergen labeling. The foreign supplier verification program comprises the following components: Foreign Site Compliance Review, Hazard Analysis, Verification Activities, Corrective Actions, Re-assessment and Documentation.

Karine Lawrence, Founder and Principal Consultant of Sirocco Food + Wine Consulting, has worked for the wine and food industry for over 20 years and brings an extensive working knowledge in Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance as well as Quality Management. Karine’s teaching credentials include being a Lead FSPCA instructor (human Food) and Certified SQF Trainer and Consultant. She is also a certified HACCP professional.

2:00 pm - 2:45 pm - FSVP Automation in Action - James Flynn - Primority

James Flynn is CTO and Founder of Primority Ltd. He is also a food safety systems expert with more than 25 years experience in implementing food safety compliance and management systems. James will present 3iVerify and show how it is used by many US food importers to stay legal, with respect to the FDA FSVP rule. 

2:45 pm – 3:30 pm: Using 3iVerify towards FDA compliance – A Case Study -Ketki International 

Ketki Mehta, Founder and Consultant of Ketki International LLC brings wide-ranging experience of 18 years in food industry to handle FDA regulatory and compliance issues. She has served and trained may small and big size companies internationally and has interacted with FDA and other international regulatory bodies. She completed her Master of Laws in Food and Agriculture Law from Vermont law School and is a FSPCA lead instructor for FSMA preventive controls and Foreign supplier verification program. Ketki will present a case study to show you how an importer can use 3iVerify and easily meet FDA requirements affordably. 

3:30 pm – 4:00 pm: How 3iVerify can help with SFCR compliance? 

Karine Lawrence will review the key elements of an importer PCP program under the SFCR. She will show you how 3iVerify can be used to perform foreign supplier verification activities, keep traceability records and maintain procedures for handling and investigating complaints and recalls.
